As if her previous rambunctious greeting, having run down the wall to the front door freshly bathed, in her jammies with combed wet hair wasn’t cute enough she was now at the table with that Jr Notary look in her eyes, inquiring as to who I was.

“She’s the Notary honey, now go watch the show I put on for you, so mommy and daddy can sign these documents.” her mom answered.

“What does a notary do?” she asked unwavering.

“She signs and stamps papers for us.” Her mom answered just as I happened to be stamping a notarization. The interest in the little girl’s face was not waning.

“Maybe one day you can be a notary.” her mom appeased.

“Yes, would you like to start working on being a Jr Notary?” I asked her.

“How can I do that?” she was quite inquisitive.

“You can start by practicing your signature.” I explained.

“Oh” she looked at me hesitantly, not completely perceiving what I was saying.

I immediately understood her dilemma, she probably didn’t even know what a signature was, with little to no focus on cursive in schools, signatures are going the way of dinosaurs.

I told her I was working on a coloring book that had signature practice pages in it, letting her know it should be ready early next year if she was interested.

With that she was appeased! After making sure I knew how to spell her name correctly so I could send her one of my books, she happily went back to the show that was put on for her to watch.

Whew! I’ve got to get busy on that coloring book!
